Frequently asked questions
The short version: we show you what's statistically extreme in FX right now and what usually happened next. We don't tell you what to trade — ever. The longer answers are below.
What is FX Engineer?
A market-intelligence platform for FX and macro traders. We measure positioning, volatility, carry, and regime across 35+ instruments, flag what's at a statistical extreme, and show what typically followed similar conditions — with every method published and every term defined. One membership covers the daily intelligence app and the weekly research.
Is this a signal service?
No. Signal services tell you what to buy and sell. We show you when a market is at a statistical extreme — stretched positioning, a 52-week edge, a volatility squeeze, a macro surprise — and what has typically happened next across the full history of similar setups. Context, not instructions. You decide whether and how to act.
Will you tell me what to trade, or answer questions about my positions?
No — and this is a deliberate line, not a legal formality. FX Engineer is information only. We don't give investment advice, we don't make directional calls, and we don't answer "should I buy EURUSD here?" emails — not because we don't care, but because the honest answer is that we don't know, and anyone who tells you they do is selling something.
The product is affordable and heavily explained precisely so it can stand on its own: every reading is defined in the methodology & glossary, and every episode comes with its own history. If you want someone to hold your hand through trades, this product is not for you.
What happened to the old FX Engineer?
FX Engineer started as a tools shop — the SSI positioning indicator for MT4, the pivots panel, level plotters — sold and downloaded through our site and the FXCM app store. Behind those tools, fading retail-crowd extremes genuinely worked for years: the team traded discretionary variants of it professionally, including in a managed fund, with retail positioning as the central trigger — and wound those down as the edge faded. Later we tried to distill that thinking into a mechanical signals product. It never launched: while testing it we found a data leak in our own backtests, and corrected, out-of-sample, mechanical crowd-fading is a coin flip. We published that result instead of hiding it, retracted the win-rate claims that had appeared on the site, and rebuilt the product around what survived: the context — the part that never fit inside a mechanical rule. The full, corrected record is on the signal history page.
Will you ever sell signals?
Only if we validate a real edge — and we'd publish the evidence first. That's the point of being honest now: the day we claim an edge, you'll have reason to believe us, because we told you the truth when we didn't have one.
What's free and what's paid?
Free is the situation: the daily "what's driving FX" feed, episode summaries, the per-symbol snapshot, and our public research notes. Membership adds what usually happens next: the full "what happened last time" dossiers and history, the Monday positioning and Friday COT briefs, the full research library, the daily email, and data export. Details on the pricing page.
Where does the data come from — can I verify it?
Positioning, macro, and price context are computed from the same data that underpins our published research, point-in-time with no look-ahead. Our forecasting models are separately scored against 1-minute candles and published openly — auditable and independently verifiable. The pipeline is described on what powers the intelligence.
I don't understand a term on the site.
That's on us, not you — the site is written for traders, not quants, and every metric we publish has a plain-English definition in the methodology & glossary. If something is used in a brief or dossier and isn't defined there, tell us — that's a bug in the writing.
Can I cancel? What about refunds?
Cancel anytime and keep access through the end of your billing period. New subscribers get a 14-day money-back guarantee; after 14 days there are no prorated refunds for the unused portion of a billing cycle. The full policy is in our Terms.
Who is behind FX Engineer?
A small team of markets people who test a lot, think a lot, and use AI openly in the work. We've traded these markets professionally and still manage capital privately. We don't pretend to be a large research shop — the product is the data, the methods, and the published record, not a brand-name analyst.
What questions do you answer?
Account, billing, data, and definitions — yes, gladly: support@fxengineer.com. What to trade, whether to hold, where to put a stop — no. See the advice question above; that line protects both of us.
